Winter is different in the two parts of the world. In the Northern Hemisphere, winter occurs in December, January, and February, and in the Southern Hemisphere in June, July, and August. In regions close to the equator, winter, spring, summer, and autumn are not the same as in other parts of the world. Instead, there may be rain and drought. For example, in Florida, it rains from May to October, and in India from July to November. Australia is now in summer and winter will be in June and August. But in many countries’ winters are cold and humid. And this is the defining characteristic that partly gave the name to winter. In general, the term winter was first recorded in Old English and is associated with the words water and wet. In Indo-European languages, winter, water and wet have many similar meanings. Previously, the Anglo-Saxons determined their age by how many winters had passed.
Winter is a wonderful time of the year. Even though winter is cold in most countries, many people enjoy winter and so do I. Of course, this is not surprising, there are a lot of holidays at this time of the year. This is the perfect time for those who prefer a cup of coffee on a cold winter evening or morning. Also, for those involved in winter sports. I am a huge winter sports fan. It is an amazing feeling when you are snowboarding downhill. Also, winter is the time for me to read my favorite books, watch old films like Harry Potter, Home Alone or The Grinch and I set new goals for myself for the coming year. And for children, winter is a time of magic. All of them are looking forward to the New Year, Christmas. On the eve of these holidays, gifts and pleasant memories are exchanged. Many people celebrate with the whole family, and it’s fun. I have my tradition of giving gifts to loved ones. Perhaps for them, I am Santa Claus. The process of searching for gifts is important for me, I even make gift boxes myself and sometimes the gifts themselves. It’s like a hobby for me.
I think during the wintertime a lot of people get depressed, maybe for some, it was not the best year. Maybe someone was unable to fulfill their dreams or goals. In any case, I mean that everyone should try to write in a notebook, anywhere, their New Year resolutions. It helps you get your thoughts in order and focus on specific goals for the next year.
